This includes individuals like us โ among senior generations almost a majority โ who were educated as conventional Protestant believers.
We have witnessed over the years as politically conservative religious groups converted the Savior we were raised with into the complete reverse of our understanding of him. Essentially, they converted a persona of love into an icon of animosity who endorses specifically the brutality that he criticized in scripture; this transformation occurred more slowly, through multiple decades rather than months, however it is still disturbing through similar means, a disorienting gut punch for many of us.
A Damaging Christianity Takes Hold

The obvious and clear truth that the Jesus from scripture calls for a form of radical love focused on the impoverished is what has always made the Christian faith somewhat of a scandalous religion: engaging for the populace, but due to its natural unconventionality demanding to be restrained. In the 1950s it was restrained by dilution โ The Protestant faith was so widespread that it basically baptized the status quo.
A Battle for the Best Among Us
Hence I have become encouraged to observe the steadfast resistance against Trump arise over the last twelve months.
