Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player won his first title for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging season, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial title after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after spring of that year.

Victory also means he has won 21 victories at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to wonder if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional title, gained dominance to create a third set.

He rescued 4 early-game break points in a close third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the win with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a volley after a lengthy match.
