The highly-awaited Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been widespread.
Season 1 presents a diverse group of personalities residing in the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the creator commented recently. "However I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 moves, and how much of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a prediction grid about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
